Young Tottenham goalkeeper Alfie Whiteman is set to get his first chance of regular first-team football having joined Swedish side Degerfors IF on a season-long loan deal, the club have confirmed.

Whiteman, a boyhood Tottenham supporter, has made just one first-team appearance – in a Europa League game against Ludogorets last season as a late substitute last November.

The 22-year-old featured heavily in pre-season when Hugo Lloris hadn’t yet returned from his holidays, and with Joe Hart on the verge of a move to Celtic.

And he produced some impressive performances in the friendlies against Colchester and MK Dons, saving an early penalty in the latter.

Whiteman looked on course to provide back-up for Lloris and summer signing Pierluigi Gollini as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper having been on the bench against both Arsenal and Chelsea.

However, Whiteman’s pre-season form has earned him a move to Sweden and Degerfors IF, who’re currently 12th in the league.
