Some Tottenham supporters may have been a bit disappointed about the swiftness of Moussa Sissoko’s exit last week – as they weren’t able to give him a proper goodbye.
But in a strange twist of fate, the midfielder started for Watford against Spurs just two days after leaving the Londoners.
After five years at Tottenham, Sissoko left N17 for the Hornets, joining the likes of Toby Alderweireld and Erik Lamela by departing this summer after a number of seasons at the club.
His inclusion in Watford’s starting line-up so soon after signing was something of a surprise, but Sissoko was applauded at the beginning of the game and serenaded by the home fans when he was substituted in the second half.
There were a couple of funny moments involving the Frenchman during the game: at one point he accidentally kicked the ball straight at Nuno Espirito Santo, and later he typically sent a shot into row Z.
On Monday, Sissoko finally wrote a goodbye message to the Spurs fans on Twitter. You can read it below, and also check out some of the heartfelt responses from the supporters.
Coming back to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium yesterday was a special moment for me.I spent 5 years at this club and I have only fond memories of it. Fan chants will resonate in my head for a long time to come and I have always strived to give you my best.I will never forget you❤️ https://t.co/KxUi9G6ZfR
