Tottenham are expected to terminate Serge Aurier’s contract, according to Alasdair Gold.

We relayed a story from The Athletic earlier on deadline day which said that Aurier was set to remain in north London despite Spurs hoping to move the right-back on all summer.

But Tottenham have been unable to find a new club for Aurier, who’s got just one year left on his contract.

And therefore, Gold believes that Spurs are now set to terminate his contract having seen the 28-year-old fail to make a competitive appearance under Nuno Espirito Santo.

With Aurier’s contract expiring in the summer of 2022, he was likely to leave the club at some stage, and with Emerson Royal, Japhet Tanganga and Matt Doherty now battling it out for the right-back spot, his chances were going to be limited this season.

Aurier made 27 appearances across all competitions last term, but expressed his desire to leave the club on more than one occasion, which meant he was always likely to move on.

  1. Am really sad to see Aurier leave this way. Was a good character and he did actually improve drastically from his first season until this past season where he was one of the better players in our defence, was our top tackler in our entire team (despite not playing every game), was our top ball recoverer, top interceptor. Had 0 own goals and 0 mistakes leading to a goal.

Overall he had a decent season but all fans remember is him giving away the pen against leicester, where he was a split second late with the shoulder charge, just about bringing the play into the box. Sadly Aurier replaced a top top right back, and because he wasnt an out of the box direct replacement fans completely turned on him.

We will be weaker at right back this season without him, guaranteed. Tanganga is decent defensively, Emerson has no experience at the level he will regularly face in the league and fans will be on his back as soon as it becomes clear he needs time. Doherty was arguably our worst right back last year and doesnt look to have improved.

I wish serge all the best in the future.
