Gareth Bale has revealed he rejoined Tottenham because he wanted to return to a happier environment after a difficult spell with Real Madrid.
The Welshman spent last season on loan at Spurs, enduring a tough start before coming alive towards the end of the campaign with some memorable goals and performances.
However, he is now back in Madrid after a deal to extend his second spell with Tottenham was left seemingly unexplored by all parties.
Bale has been starting games under returning Real manager Carlo Ancelotti, who was in charge at the Bernabeu when Bale first left Spurs for the La Liga giants.
Talking to reporters during the international break, the 32-year-old spoke about why it was such an easy decision to go back to Tottenham last summer.
“I think it is always good to be in a good atmosphere,” he said (as relayed by AS). “That is the main reason why I went to Tottenham, as I knew it would be a good environment for me.
“It was a break that maybe I needed at the time, and I had a great time with the Spurs. It definitely helped me get back to a happier place.”
While it’s a shame Bale’s stay couldn’t be extended, the club is probably better off without having to pay his huge wages.
His absence should also allow Steven Bergwijn to fulfil his potential with more minutes on one of the flanks – the same goes for new signing Bryan Gil.
We either sold, loaned out or released over 20 players last month, combined a saving of over £40m in wages, that along with the fees Levy occurred means that our transfer window was paid for by us. Not one penny came out of Lewis’ pocket again, he’s not an owner that wants success for the team, club or the fans, all he and Levy are interested in is personal financial gain, and it’s all at our expense. 20 years of them is at least 18 too many, it’s time they left so we might find an owner that wants what’s best for the club, NOT lining their own pockets. If you want to be another Leeds or Wimbledon keep knocking Levy. He is playing the long game and not looking for instant gratification. To build a strong club you need strong finances. Levy sees the big picture. You don’t

Nah, to me, Traore is NOT for Spurs. Although he can brush past many defenders easily…his end product is just awful. Certainly NOT worth the 40-50M that Wolves wanted for him.
Rarely agree with Levy,but on this occasion was 100% correct in not forking out for a player whose only real asset is his pace; has absolutely nothing else to really offer.
Believe we are very well served with wide players.
