Antonio Conte has said he is “making my evaluations” about Tottenham’s first-team and will then talk to the club about which players are worthy of a place in the squad.

The Spurs manager was speaking after Thursday’s night’s embarrassing 2-1 defeat away to NS Mura in the Europa Conference League, a game in which a number of fringe players failed to make any sort of impression.

Matt Doherty, Tanguy Ndombele, Ryan Sessegnon – who was sent off in the first half – and Dele Alli were all particularly disappointing, especially with places in the team up for grabs in their specific positions.

In quotes we shared after the match, Conte questioned the quality of the squad, admitting “the level of Tottenham is not so high”.

Now, new quotes have emerged as relayed by Football London, with Conte going one step further by essentially saying he is ready to tell the board who can stay and who can go.

“For sure we need players with the right mentality and with the quality, players that deserve to play for Tottenham and aspire to be competitive, to fight for this shirt, to win something,” said the Italian.

“For sure, we need this. I’m making my evaluations and then I’ll speak with the club but I’m ready to continue to work in this way.

“It’s important that we have to know that the situation is not simple, simple, no. It’s not enough to do this [clicks fingers] and change the situation.

“We need time, we need passion, we need work and I’m here for this. It doesn’t mean that we have to change a lot. I’m ready to do what the club want to do, but now, the situation is very clear.”

It appears there could be some major personnel changes in January and next summer, something that has been required for some time.

  1. Easier to list the ones at less risk – Son, Romero, Emerson, Hojbjerg, Skipp, Reguillon, Lo Celso, Dier (?), Kane(?), Lloris(?), Tanganga(?)

  2. Le Celso is one of the first I would sell, along Doherty, and deledickhead, le celso has been so bad when played, which is rare because he is always on internationals or injured, sick of him, dele the same, we need to get them away from the club and bring in players that can actually contribute..

  3. Ndombele is our best midfielder by a long shot but he can’t be arsed half the time so I would probably sell him to, sancez needs to get some better boots, lads always falling over and completely going into meltdown afterwards, shame cos he is immense on his day!

  4. Mr Levy has a lot to answer for, he was responsible for buying these player’s, Ndombole, Doherty, Lo Celso Aurier the list is endless. He has never replaced the high quality full backs, Walker, Rose and Trippier, or Erickson. The team desperately needs a quality centre back, someone who commands the ball in the area (possibly Joe Rodon if given a chance, good enough for Wales, not Spurs )! He spent a fortune on Ndombele, he could have bought Grealish or Maddison for half that amount if we are to believe the media. Instead we have Emerson, Sanches, Gill, et al . Sadly Dele Ali has given up, he will be lucky to get £20 million for him now. Mr Conte has a lot of rebuilding to do, this squad is not good enough! !!!

  5. It didn’t help our cause when we went eighteen months without signing a player at a time when we were making record profit.

  6. I’m in my 50th year supporting Spurs and I have never seen a bunch of players play with such little desire. Very sad to see. Seen it time and time again over the last few years. No consistency or leadership on the field except for one player – Hojberg!! I watched Liverpool, Chelsea and Man City play last week and the average number of times that team mates were “yelling” at each other was about 8 to 9 times per half. Other than Hojberg, Spurs players just walk around and look at each other. How many players yelled at Kane / Alli / Sanchez….etc. etc. last night for their awful passing, ball control, lumbering (because that’s what it was) around the pitch? No-one!! No passion. Sorry Kane is not a leader. Neither is Lloris – why are they the captains!!! Makes no sense. Our top goal scorer takes corners and free kicks – give me a break. What a joke. I could go on. Get players that are proud to wear the shirt on the pitch yelling at each other. Lose with passion please.

    • Absolutely agree John. Like you I have followed the Spurs for over 55 years and this team is the most dispassionate team I have ever seen in a Spurs shirt.

  7. I think I would think about building a side around Son and Hojbjerg. Keep Reguilon, Rodon, Royal, Romero, Ndombele and Moura. Get rid of the rest and look to bring in some class players. Get rid of Levy as he is a businessman only, not interested in the football club as a whole. We need a complete re-build of the squad. I believe we should have signed Bale he brought more to the team last season than most of the team has done this season.
