Tottenham could make a move for Juventus defender Matthijs de Ligt in January because of Cristian Romero’s long-term injury, according to reports in Italy.

Romero has been ruled out for up to two more months with the hamstring injury he picked up while playing for Argentina in November, leaving Spurs short of quality at centre-back.

But Italian outlet Calcio Mercato claim’s Romero’s absence could actually help Tottenham in terms of forcing them to move for reinforcements in January.

And the report claims De Ligt is the priority, with Antonio Conte said to be ‘pushing for the immediate purchase’ of the 22-year-old.

De Ligt was one of the standout players in the Ajax side that reached the Champions League semi-final in 2019, only to lose to Spurs – the centre-back scored the first goal in the second leg.

His fortunes for Juventus have been mixed but in fairness the team’s general levels have dipped in recent years, which obviously hasn’t help De Ligt’s settling-in period.

If Tottenham can sign him and return him to his previous levels, they will be getting a very high-quality centre-back.

  1. If we make 4 signings, De Ligt, Kim Min Jae, Kessie and Vlahovic, I’m convinced we will make top 4 this season and that alone will pay back most of the out lay on those players, that’s without what we could get from out goings. Lets show some intent and get the fans buzzing. This stadium buzzing would be an awesome place to come to.

  2. Spurs really needs new central defender and striker to support Kane
Spurs would be strength in forward if Spurs uses two striker
