Tottenham are keeping tabs on Cagliari midfielder Nahitan Nandez, according to reports in Italy.
Nandez joined Cagliari from Argentine side Boca Juniors in the summer of 2019 and has been a mainstay in the team ever since, making 16 league appearances so far this season.
But Italian outlet Calcio Mercato suggests the Uruguayan may have played his last game for Cagliari.
The report claims Cagliari could try to sell Nandez in the January transfer window to raise funds for new signings – and there is interest from Spurs, who are said to be ‘observing’ the player.
It is believed the 25-year-old, who has 49 senior caps for Uruguay, has a €36 million release clause but Cagliari could come down on that price if they are desperate to sell.
Nandez often plays on the right of midfield but the defensive side of his game is key – perhaps Tottenham have identified him as a possible right wing-back.
With Matt Doherty still struggling to impress, there is a chance Antonio Conte will want to sign fresh competition for Emerson Royal, so the link makes sense.
Spurs have priorities in other areas, however, so they probably won’t want to pay €36 million for Nandez – let’s hope that price does come down.
