Tottenham are leading the race to sign AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie, according to reports in Italy.
Kessie has been a mainstay in the Milan midfield since joining the Serie A giants from Atalanta in 2017 but is out of contract at the end of the season.
And Italian outlet Calcio Mercato claims Spurs are ‘in the lead’ when it comes to the various clubs attempting to sign Kessie on a free transfer next summer.
Paris Saint-Germain are also said to be pressing for the 25-year-old’s signature, but Tottenham are currently in pole position to get a deal done.
Spurs’ current central midfielders have all impressed lately, with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Oliver Skipp usually starting when Antonio Conte opts for a 3-4-3 formation.
Against Liverpool, Conte switched to 3-5-2 with a midfield three of Harry Winks, Tanguy Ndombele and Dele Alli, all of whom played well.
This has given Conte a selection headache for the festive period, but at the same time Tottenham could still do with reinforcements in the middle of the park.
Despite the improvement of the players mentioned above, upgrading the midfield is a possibility and Kessie would be ideal.
What selection headaches? The players stepped when they were needed. Isnt that what they are paid to do. What is their job description if they cannot come in for stop starts and play well. If easier when one or two players rotate, but when you called on half your bench they need to response to show they can play with any unit. The results of Liverpool and WH is not going to change Conte original setup and rightfully so. It should more that he starters are keeping the subs out than the subs not good enough to be trusted. Man, talk about stealing a dime for this kind of reporting.
