Tottenham have an interest in signing Brighton defender Tariq Lamptey, according to the Manchester Evening News.

Lamptey has impressed since joining Brighton from Chelsea two years ago. The right-back spent most of last season sidelined with a hamstring injury but has been back in action this term for the in-form Seagulls.

And it seems Spurs could try to lure him back to London.

The Manchester Evening News claims Manchester United are fond of Lamptey but Tottenham apparently have a more ‘concrete’ interest than the Red Devils.

Summer arrival Emerson Royal and Jose Mourinho signing Matt Doherty are currently competing for the right wing-back slot at Spurs – Lamptey would certainly be an upgrade on both when it comes to the attacking side of the role.

With all of that said, Tottenham are reportedly (via Fabrizio Romano) confident of signing Wolves star Adama Traore before the transfer deadline, and there have been suggestions the Spain international will be used as a wing-back.

If Spurs also go for Lamptey, perhaps it means Antonio Conte in fact sees Traore as an option in the front three. We’ll see.
