In amongst all the transfer rumour chaos there’s a Premier League game to be played tonight and according to Spurs’ assistant Joe Jordan, there are a few injury worries ahead of the game with Wigan.

Jordan revealed new doubts over Jermain Defoe and Aaron Lennon, both of whom have picked up fresh hamstring injuries in the last few days.

“We’ll have to see how they settle down,” Joe said.

“They will not train with the squad, they’ll train inside and do some physiotherapy, that’s it.

“We’ll then see how they are tomorrow.

“Gareth will train this morning and Ledley King will be available if he comes through training.”

If all four of those names were fit then the side is likely to pick itself, particularly as Joe went on to say that Brazilian Sandro isn’t quite match fit.

With those doubts in mind however, this is how we feel the starting XI will look but what do you think?

Assistant Kevin Bond was giving little away in terms of team news yesterday while he did confirm that there were injury doubts over Scott Parker, Younes Kaboul and Gareth Bale,

“Younes missed training on Wednesday, while both Gareth and Scotty had to come out of training early with slight muscle problems,” he said.

Bond also confirmed that Sandro and William Gallas were definitely ruled out although given Spurs’ selection policy for cup games, it seems unlikely that any of those names would have featured from the start in any event.

Spurs could conceivably play the same side that defeated Cheltenham in the third round but that could largely depend on the availability of Giovani dos Santos who is supposedly on the brink of a move to Spain. If Gio is out of the picture, Jake Livermore is likely to move into midfield from the right back berth but that still leaves questions.

The game could feature Tom Carroll against his home town club, Vedran Corluka and even John Bostock who has turned in a couple of decent performances in Spurs Lodge matches.

This then is our team to face Watford, but what’s yours?

As we are all aware, Emmanuel Adebayor will be force to sit this one out but is it a simple case of bringing in Jermain Defoe as a straight replacement. Could Harry accommodate Pavlyuchenko in a 4-4-2 or even play five across the midfield tomorrow.

The other issue surrounds club captain Ledley King who may be a bigger doubt for the game than was suggested earlier in the week.

“He’s not trained, but it’s not impossible he could come out and train tomorrow morning,” said Harry on Friday

“He’s not fit to train today. He can’t, because of his knee, but he may well come out tomorrow morning, so I wouldn’t write him off.

“This is no different to normal. If he comes out tomorrow morning and says ‘I’m okay’, then he’ll play Sunday, if I pick him. That’s how it works. It’s amazing, really. It defies everything.”

If fit, it could be a question of whether King comes straight back in for Michael Dawson who played three games in a week after recovering from his own injury issues. Otherwise the team probably picks itself and this is what we think it will be.

It’s been a frustrating period for Jermain Defoe whereby he has spent most of his time on the bench in recent weeks. Despite scoring some valuable goals when he has been on the pitch, the striker is a firm third in the White Hart Lane pecking order behind Adebayor and VDV.

JD will surely get his chance this weekend however as Adebayor is forced to sit out the game against his parent club and in his newspaper column, manager Harry Redknapp almost went overboard in praising his ‘back up’ striker.

“It’s been difficult for him at Tottenham this season and I can understand his frustration,” Harry said in The Sun.

“With Emmanuel Adebayor here, it’s been a case of Manu and who else up front?

Harry went on to say that Defoe could be the key player on Sunday.

“City have won all 10 Prem home games this term but it would be a fantastic achievement for us to go there and change that.

“Defoe could have a key role in that. I watch him in training and he has the shortest backlift of any striker, he barely bends his leg when teeing up a shot but then he is a brilliant finisher.

“Our squad is more than capable of coming away with something from Man City, and it could be a big day for Defoe.”

Despite rumours of a move away from the club, Defoe is set to stay for now at least and he certainly seems to have the full backing of his manager.

We all know that Harry likes to throw Ledley King into the big occasions if he possibly can and if there is a remote chance of the club captain being fit for Sunday’s match with Manchester City, you can be fairly certain that the manager will use him.

The early prognosis on King’s troublesome Hamstring was grim and it was expected that he would be out for another six weeks at least but after responding well to intensive treatment, he could make the final cut.

Elsewhere, Sandro is another who could return after injury but with Scott Parker returning to full fitness, the Brazilian is likely to be looking at a place on the bench at best.

This is one of the biggest games of the season for Spurs and as far as our central defence is concerned it could be a case of picking two from Kaboul, Dawson and King. If so, which way would you go?

After enjoying a great run of results against Manchester City in recent years, the last two league games haven’t exactly gone our way and although Sunday’s opponents have struggled a little in recent weeks, the Etihad will be a tough place to go and get a result.

There is a great belief in this current Spurs side however and Luka Modric is one player who is targeting an upset this time around.

“The last two seasons we have played massive games there and this will be another one,” Luka said.

“I hope we will do well and maybe win, why not? We are going there with a positive mindset and we will try to win the game.

“We try to do that against every opponent. I think we are that good that we can go there and win.”

It will be a tough ask on Sunday but Luka for one is keeping the faith.

Once again the team news focuses on Scott Parker and there is a chance that our England international midfielder could be fit to face Wolves tomorrow.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Harry Redknapp said,

“We’re hoping he’s going to be okay, but it was great to see Jake Livermore come in and play like he did against Everton.”

Parker for Livermore could be the only change from the side that played in midweek and if he has a chance of playing, there are two schools of thought as to whether Scott should start. On the one hand, we should always play our strongest side whenever possible but could there be a case of resting the player ahead of next week’s match with Manchester City?

The only other question is the usual one up front where it could be a choice between JD and VDV. As usual, you can probably expect the Dutchman to start barring any late fitness scares.

Here’s our team to face Wolves – what’s yours?

Jermain Defoe will be hoping that his recent performances have earned him a place in Tottenham’s starting XI tonight and if he does take to the pitch against Everton, the striker will hope that Spurs can be more ruthless in finishing off their opponents tonight.

In cementing third place and opening up a five point gap over Chelsea, it’s hard to say that the club has been stuttering but fans would hope to see recent 1-0 wins turned into more comfortable victories and that will be down to the strikers in the main.

“We’re at home, we’re playing well and we have to be ruthless,” Defoe said,

“It’s always tough against Everton but we’re full of confidence and we have to try and keep doing what we’re doing.”

Defoe’s first task is to persuade Harry Redknapp that he deserves a place in the side ahead of Rafael van der Vaart and if he does edge out the Dutchman tonight, fans will be hoping for a goal scoring contribution from the striker once again.

The big news to come out of White Hart Lane this week surrounds Scott Parker who remains extremely doubtful for tonight’s clash. Speaking yesterday at his press conference, manager Harry Redknapp said,

“Scott is struggling,” said Harry. “He’s doubtful, in fact, he’s very doubtful.

“We’ve one or two injuries. Ledley King has had a scan on his hamstring injury and it’s not too bad, but he’s not fit.”

So with the back four almost picking itself with the return of Michael Dawson, the questions begin in midfield. Aaron Lennon appears to have come through the Cheltenham game unscathed and as such would seem to be a logical replacement for Parker.

Harry has also said that Steven Pienaar could face his former club but where could the South African be accommodated?

Up front there must be more questions than usual with Jermain Defoe in form and threatening the Ade / VDV axis. Will Harry plump for JD or will he prefer the Dutchman?

Here’s our team to face Everton – what’s yours?

It’s a depleted side that will step out on the park to face Cheltenham in the FA Cup tomorrow but we do know that Michael Dawson and Aaron Lennon will play at least.

Elsewhere, injuries and loan departures mean that Harry will pick from whoever is available, while looking for a chance to rest some of his more influential players

It’s great to have Michael coming back, he’s been out quite a while now,” said Harry Redknapp about tomorrow’s likely skipper.

“He’s worked hard to get back to fitness and is looking forward to playing.

“Aaron looks fine as well, he trained yesterday and he’s ready to play as well, which is great.”

Harry also ruled out Scott Parker, Sandro and William Gallas while hinting that the likes of Modric, Bale, VDV and Adebayor would be rested.

“We will change it around,” he added. “That’s no disrespect to Cheltenham, but we’ve played the same players and we can’t keep playing them. We need to use the squad.

“But we will still field a team of international players, we want to make sure we get through.”

That leaves a tricky prediction and it’s hard enough to remember the fringe players that are still here. Overall, our predicted starting XI looks like this but what do you think?
