Gallas, Adebayor and Hleb have all been linked with a move to Spurs in recent weeks. Are we trying to create a reunion of the team of ‘kids’ that we beat 5-1?

The Adebayor rumour is just that I reckon. City have got too many players, we need a big striker who can pay on his own up front and journalists know that the headline will attract attention. In some ways he’d actually be a very good signing for us and is the type of player that we need, except for the fact that he is clearly a complete tosser.

Speaking of tossers, Gallas has been the latest of the former-Goons to be linked with a move to Spurs. Again this would make sense on some levels. He’s available for free and can play in every position across the back line.

Apparently though he wants a two year contract, while we’re only willing to give him one. Another problem is the fact that he clearly has an inflated view of his own self-worth. Would he be happy to be a squad player? Because that’s all he’d be at Spurs and why pay so much on wages for someone who’s going to be spending most of his time on the bench?

Finally, there’s Barcelona’s Hleb, who unlike our other 5-1 defeated targets, at least doesn’t come across as a complete tosser on a personal level. He’s never really settled at Barcelona and there could be some truth in our interest, if Harry fails to bring Ashley Young to Spurs, having already missed out on Joe Cole. As is the case with Young though, he’s not a player that we desperately need.

Ultimately I don’t want any of them at Spurs and I would be surprised if most Tottenham fans felt differently. The one bonus to signing any of them of course, would be the sheer annoyance factor that it would create for the South London Nomads. Signing Adebayor would surely annoy them the most, followed by Gallas and then Hleb.

So maybe there’s something in the idea after all. Any idea how we could change the lyrics to that Adebayor song though?

I have a confession to make; a terrible, shameful confession. I was born in N1. Not an awful lot I could have done about it obviously, but I still feel the shame. Thankfully my Dad was an enlightened soul and supported THFC. As a kid he would escort me to the odd game with a season ticket borrowed from my wealthy uncle in Enfield. The same sadly, cannot be said for the rest of my family who, to a man, woman and child are staunch supporters of the Arse.

Once upon a time, pre-Wenger, that really didn’t matter, not when it was ‘Super Spurs’ providing the glamour ,verve and occasional FA Cup victory. Let’s face it all the Gooners were good for was boring the pants off opposing teams and winning the double. It was never about trophies, we could piously assert; it was all to do with aesthetics.

So when George Graham’s ‘boring boring Arsenal’ won the league, I knew I could hold my head high in the Green household, safe in the knowledge that I was keeping the flame alive for lovers of the beautiful game.

Now I don’t know whether it was coincidence, but the arrival of the myopic Frenchman happened at pretty much the same time as the gentrification of Islington. Seemingly overnight, the Balls Pond Road became desirable (okay I’m exaggerating a tad) while N17 remained resolutely downmarket. Life mirrored sport, as our stock plummeted and theirs soared.

And then there were the players; Bergkamp, Henry, Viera, Overmars, Petit…bought seemingly just to inflict maximum collateral damage on our beloved club. And who did we have in our ranks to vanquish this fearsome foe? Bunjevcevic, Rebrov, Doherty, Berti and…Nielsen. ..It was like pitting a Maserati against Del Boy’s three wheeler; there was only going to be one winner.

As the years passed and we suffered more false dawns than a cockerel with a crack habit, the antagonism from N1 evaporated, to be replaced by something far worse; they started to patronise us. They knew they were infinitely better, they knew they were the artists and we the artisans. Deep down we knew it too, even if we refused to publicly acknowledge the fact.

These were the truly fallow years; while Arsenal played champagne football we had to be content with a dour Worthington Cup victory over Leicester City – orchestrated by gorgeous George Graham no less – before the failure of Hod the Messiah to guide us to the Promised Land. Gross, Santini, Graham; let’s face it, we couldn’t sink any lower.

And then suddenly with the appointment of big Tony, the pendulum started to swing back. Who can forget the ecstasy followed by the agony of 2005/2006 when we came within a poisoned pasta of breaking up the Premiership cartel? For the first time in aeons, I witnessed genuine fear in the eyes of Arsenal supporters, as man for man we finally looked their equals (the players not the supporters).

Par for the course, we somehow contrived to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory by declaring that only a top four finish was good enough. Exit the man who had guided us to successive top five finishes. There was a depressing symmetry to the manner in which Jol was appointed and then discarded, but then PR has never been a strong point at the Lane.

And all the time my relatives revelled in the ongoing soap opera that is Tottenham Hotspur…

Now, post-Ramos, there are signs that the beast is stirring, but in true Tottenham style, we still seem to veer from the sublime to the goddamn awful in the space of 45 seconds never mind 45 minutes.

Let’s be honest here people, the tag line to this site sums up the mind set of Tottenham supporters perfectly: ‘The Spurs News Site That Expects the Worst and is Rarely Disappointed’.

In 2007, Lloyds Pharmacy conducted a survey of stress levels amongst Premiership fans. You won’t be shocked to hear that we came out on top. Along with Man City supporters, we must be the largest collection of masochists anywhere in the world. I wonder if the red and white faction of my family would have stuck with it through thick and thin the way I have over the past twenty odd years? Somehow I doubt it…

Our Harry is praising Arsene Wenger in his column in The Sun, for having completed a good bit of business with his re-signing of Sol Campbell.

Obviously Redknapp is a big admirer of Campbell, having worked with him at Portsmouth. He even admitted that he would have signed him in the summer, had he been working at any other club than Tottenham. Today, Harry says:

Wenger can rely on Campbell to do the business.

He will give 100 per cent and still has the ability to play Premier League football.

I thought when he went to Notts County it was a mistake. He was far better than that. He is a good, solid, experienced figure, who now will be back at home with Arsenal.

As well as being good on the pitch, Campbell will strike an inspiring figure for the club’s young players.

He has gone full circle. It will not help England’s cause but Arsenal’s title challenge has just moved to another level.

Far be it from me to disagree with the highly-paid views of our esteemed manager, but really? Yes, he’s free, but why is he considered a good signing at 35-years old?

Campbell hasn’t played a game since September when he walked out on Notts County, having <del datetime="2010-01-14T12:18:35+00:00">decided that the thirty pieces of silver he received to join the League 2 club wasn’t worth the aggravation</del> reassessed the challenges that he wants to take on at this stage of his career.

Let’s not forget that Campbell’s one game for Notts County was a 2-1 defeat against Morecambe. That was his first game, since last playing for Portsmouth in a 1-0 end of season loss against Wigan.

So adding his appearance for Arsenal reserves to the equation, Campbell has played in three games in eight months. He might still have the experience in his head, but so has Mike England and I wouldn’t want him turning out for Spurs next week.

I for one would like nothing better than for Campbell to playing for the Goons when they turn up at White Hart Lane on April 10th, not just so that we can give him one last rousing reception, but also to witness Jermain Defoe and very possibly Peter Crouch, outpacing him at every opportunity.

As we all know, Arsenal fans are not exactly renowned for their passionate support for their club. Why, the average match at The Emirates is so quiet that you could almost be mistaken for thinking that you were watching a frame of snooker.

So when the Arsenal fans do decide to have a sing song, they can be forgiven for lacking material. It came as no surprise then, that when they felt the need to barrack their former hero Emmanuel Adebayor at the weekend, that the Arsenal faithful had to turn to a song created at White Hart Lane.

According to Martin Samuel in The Daily Mail, the Arsenal fans were singing the song about Adebayor that depicts his father as an elephant washer and his mother as a prostitute. I don’t for a minute suppose that they had the wit to do the actions.

After the news yesterday regarding Ian Trow’s successful appeal following the Tottenham 16 case, this revelation highlights how difficult it is to police terrace chanting. Everyone is as bad as each other. Even those nice Arsenal fans from leafy Islington.

As mentioned in today’s paper review, rumours abound that Tottenham are to sign the former Arsenal skipper Patrick Vieira on a free transfer from Inter Milan.

Disgusting scenes

Just take a look at the above. Could we ever accept the man on the right as a Tottenham player? I don’t think so, though at a push I might give the man on the left a job as a steward, just so we could laugh at him.

Vieira will go down in history as one of Arsenal’s greatest ever players. The annoyance factor that we would cause to Gooners by signing one of their favourite sons shouldn’t be underestimated, but you know what they’d roll out a line about us signing their cast offs and turn the joke around on us.

And let’s face it, they’d have a point. Vieira’s best days are clearly behind him. If he can only manage to stay fit to play a handful of games a season in Italy, what chance would there be of him still being a physical presence in the rough and tumble of the Premier League?

So Vieira is out (we hope). He’s no longer up to it and also, we hate him. These are two very compelling reasons to let him continue to rot in Milan.

There is however another rumour linking us to the signing of Mathieu Flamini. Having left Arsenal on a free transfer last summer, Flamini has been played out of position at right back for much of his stint at AC Milan.

As we know, Harry is very fond of players that can provide cover for that problematic right back position at Tottenham, though one would assume that Flamini would be earmarked for a central midfield position.

The signing would make a lot of sense. Flamini and Palacios would combine to make a very strong midfield partnership, while Flamini could play in a ball winner role, should we decide to pair him with Modric or the Hudd.

Just as importantly, the annoyance factor for our friends from Woolwich, would this time be very real. Flamini walked away from Arsenal without them receiving a penny and their fans can’t deny (though they’d undoubtedly try) that they would have enjoyed a more successful season last term, had he stayed.

Having just just watched the Carlos Tevez conference at Manchester City, I can’t imagine that Flamini would be that bothered about ‘betraying’ the Arsenal fans. By the way, how come Tevez can’t speak a word of English even though he’s lived over here for about four years now? And he wonders why Alex Ferguson wouldn’t talk to him.

Getting back to the point, it’s a signing that makes sense from a lot of angles, but would I prefer us to just sign someone else who hasn’t been tainted by the red and white? Of course, but of the two ex-Arsenal options, I know which one I could tolerate.
