1973 – On this day in 1973, Carlo Cudicini was born. After a long spell as Chelsea’s reserve keeper, Cudicini signed for Tottenham in 2009 on a free transfer. The Italian has also been unable to break into Tottenham’s starting side on a regular basis and has thus far only made 12 appearances for the club.

1988 – On this day in 1988, Paul Gascoigne made his debut for Tottenham against his old club Newcastle at St James’ Park. Gazza was showered with Mars Bars whenever he approached the touchline and to make matters worse, Newcastle took a 2-0 lead.

Gazza’s fellow ex-Magpie Chris Waddle, got Spurs back into it with a volleyed goal, before Terry Fenwick made the score 2-2 with a header.

1977 – On this day in 1977, Frederic Kanoute was born. Kanoute was signed for Spurs from West Ham in 2003 and played 73 times, scoring 21 goals, before joining Sevilla for 6.5m Euros. Kanoute has subsequently been a huige success in Spain, scoring far more goals than he ever managed in England or France.

1969 – On this day in 1969, Spurs were in action at home against Ipswich Town. Tottenham took a 3-0 lead with goals from Alan Mullery, Alan Gilzean and Jimmy Greaves, before the visitors pulled it back to 3-2 with strikes from Ron Wigg and Colin Viljoen. Though Ipswich searched for an equaliser, Spurs held on to edge a win.

1988 – On this day in 1988 we were meant to start off our season with a home game against Coventry, but the match was eventually called off, as we were refused a safety certificate, following the redevelopment of the East Stand.

The decision was only made six hours before kick off, leaving fans frustrated at not being able to watch the debut of our new signing Paul Gascoigne.

1961 – On this day in 1961, Spurs beat Arsenal 4-3 at White Hart Lane. Tottenham went 2-0 up with goals from Les Allen and Terry Dyson, only for Arsenal to fight back to lead 3-2. With just seven minutes left, Dyson scored two more goals within two minutes, to complete his hat-trick and put us back in the lead. Dyson remains the only Spurs player to have scored a hat-trick in the North London derby.
