Jonathan Woodgate yesterday came through a practice match unscathed and could soon be available for selection. This is great news and what’s even better is that Ledley King looks to be back in action for the game against Portsmouth on Saturday.

With King, Woodgate, Dawson and Bassong available, it looks like Huddlestone will move out of defence and back into midfield. Whilst Tom’s played well at the back, I’ve been a little bit worried about us playing him, Jenas and Palacios in the starting lineup, when they are essentially the only central midfielders we have at the club.

Woodgate is apparently a week or two from being completely fit, but it is a relief to have more options at the back again. I don’t think any other Premier League club has the strength in depth in central defence as we do, so let’s hope that we can now start to start keeping some clean sheets again.

Last season’s turnaround under Harry was built on being tight at the back. If we get Woodgate and King back in our starting eleven, then we will soon recapture that defensive form.
