Today In Spurs History: 20th April

1928 – Today marks the birthday of Johnny Gavin, an Irish winger who signed for Spurs from Norwich in 1954. Gavin would score an impressive 16 goals in just 34 appearances for Spurs, but failed to settle in London and returned to Norwich in a deal that saw Maurice Norman come to White Hart Lane. Gavin died in 2007 aged 79.

1962 – Terry Medwin, Bobby Smith, Cliff Jones and Jimmy Greaves are all on target as Tottenham beat Blackburn 4-1. Greaves’ goal set a new club record, as it marked the ninth consecutive game in which he had scored.

1999 – 37 years later, Spurs would also run out 4-1 winners, away at Charlton. The goals were scored by Steffen Iversen, Judas, Jose Dominguez and David Ginola.
