Today In Spurs History: 23rd April
1921 – On this day in 1921 Spurs won the FA Cup final with a 1-0 win over Wolves at Stamford Bridge. Jimmy Dimmock scored the only goal.
1977 – Today is the 33rd birthday of Lee Young-Pyo. The South Korean full back played 93 games for Spurs. He now plays for Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia.
1994 – Ossie Ardiles’ relegation-threatened Tottenham side head to safety with a 3-0 home win over Southampton, with goals from Steve Sedgley, Vinny Samways and Darren Anderton.

The Sun interviews everybody’s favourite Director of Football, Damien Comolli who claims that his time at Spurs was a success. His current club St Etienne are currently 17th in the French league.
Fabio Capello is desperate to take our Ledley to the World Cup, according to The Mirror.
The Daily Mail goes back in time to 1989 where they look at our last victory at Old Trafford. On their front pages they also attempt to evoke this era, by pretending that the Tories are in pole position to win the election.

Ohh, Commoli. This man nearly destoyed Spurs. Levy messed up bringing him in but thankfully figured it out before it was too late.
The Tories are in pole position, if only by default
If Labour get in again after what they’ve done then this country deserves what it gets. The Lib Dems are just Labour turned up to 11
Damien Comolli has been unfairly maligned by most Spurs fans without a fair assessment of the players who he actually brought in. Berbatov, Modric, Gomes, Bale, Assou-Ekotto, Kaboul, Pavlyuchenko and Rose amongst others. Even players like Bent and KPB have proven to be fair value for money elsewhere although they couldn’t get a regular place in the Spurs team. The problem lay in the fact that he replaced Arnesen who was a close friend/ally of Martin Jol and temperamentally Jol and Comolli were poles apart. It was the system that didn’t work, not Comolli.
It was such a relief to see the back of Comolli as we descended into chaos last season.
His period in charge led to Spurs being a laughing stock with a disjointed unbalanced squad and the worst start to a season in the clubs history.
Seems that European football has judged him a failure too leaving him at struggling St Etienne.
he’s done some fantastic business for us in hindsight.
but he made 2 big mistakes at key points:
– in the summer of 2007, after Jol’s 2nd top 5 finish, we were expected to make the progress to 4th, and when Jol needed experienced players who could come in and do a job immediately to take us to the next level, Comolli instead exclusively invested in the future (Bale, Kaboul, KBP).
– in the summer of 2009, he knew Berbatov was leaving but he didn’t have anyone lined up to replace him. Compounded by the surprise Liverpool move for Keane, we were horribly blunt up front. with Ramos clueless in rectifying the problem on the pitch, Comolli looked a right mug.
in summary, Comolli would make a very good scout. but left to make the transfer decisions himself, turned out bad.
