1994 – On this day in 1994, Spurs signed the World Cup star Ilie Dimitrescu. The Romanian was part of Ossie Ardiles’ ill-fated ‘Famous Five’ formation, but struggled to keep his place in the first team after Ardiles was sacked and the more pragmatic Gerry Francis became the Tottenham manager.
