On This Day In Spurs History: 16th August

1980 – On this day in 1980, Spurs started the season with a 2-0 win over the reigning European champions Nottingham Forest. Glenn Hoddle scored the opening goal from the penalty spot, before Garth Crooks grabbed a debut goal to double our lead.
