Centre forwards across the world are being linked with a move to Spurs but manager Harry Redknapp is looking to an existing member of our strike force to score the goals that will help the team achieve its aims for the rest of the season.
Jermain Defoe kicked off the campaign in sparkling form which culminated in a hat-trick for the national side against Bulgaria in September. Sadly an injury picked up in that match robbed Spurs of his services for some considerable time, until he came on as substitute and made an instant impact in the win at Arsenal.
The player’s progress wasn’t helped by the bizarre sending off at Aston Villa, but two goals at FC Twente and another brace in the FA Cup win over Charlton suggest that it won’t be long before he’s back at his best.
Speaking on the official club website, Redknapp said: “He had the injury with England, missed a few months then came back and got sent off. He needs to kick-start his season now. If he can go on a run now and weigh in with 11, 12 goals – which he’s capable of – it could make a big difference for us.”
Let’s hope Harry’s right and JD quickly returns to the form he showed at the start of this season.
If we have to rely on Defoe to score the goals to win the games, we’re in trouble.
He’s okay but not good enough.

Sad to say but DeFoe has been worked-out by all the Premiership defences, except possibly the newly promoted ones early in the season.
He hasn’t scored a PL goal since way back in last season and we do desperately need a goalscorer….JD isn’t the one.
