No matter how ridiculous some of its claims may be, the Sunday newspaper transfer mill just can’t be ignored and until January fades into February, names linked with Spurs have to be analysed.

Some players mentioned last week such as Luis Suarez and Wes Brown have come up again, while the price tag placed on Andy Carroll, which now seems to have risen to £30m, appears to have put an end to that speculation.

Amongst these familiar names, there are some interesting new suggestions and one of these is Gabriel Heinze. Well known from his time at Manchester United, it came as a surprise to some when the club let him go. There was much talk of a move to Liverpool, but the bad blood between the two teams ultimately scuppered that deal, with Heinze moving to Real Madrid, before winding up at Marseille in 2009.

He will be 33 in April and out of contract in the summer. Often a player becomes linked with a move away simply because he finds himself in that situation, but with Spurs looking like Holby City at the back, will this be the type of experienced and versatile defender that we go for this month?

  1. Cannot see this happening unless Charlie goes, I hope he don’t. We need to bring the Kyles on next season. I could certaintly bring them off HHXX
