The situation tonight would seem to dictate that Spurs might abandon their standard 4-5-1 formation for the Champions League and go for a more attacking 4-4-2 option. The likely return of Aaron Lennon however, may complicate that particular issue.
At the back, there still seems to be a doubt over William Gallas, so Harry could well play the same personnel as on Saturday against Stoke.
In front of them, if Lennon comes back then who will make way? It doesn’t seem likely that Bale, Modric or Huddlestone will be dropped, so that could make VDV the odd man out. Rafa has come under fire a little in recent weeks, so will Harry drop him to the bench or try and accomodate him? If he’s in the team then we’ll probably play 4-5-1 with VDV as a second striker behind either Pav or Defoe.
The case of VDV is certainly an interesting side issue to tonight’s team selection. Here’s our team to face Real Madrid. What’s yours?
