Jermain Defoe has spoken publicly once again about his frustration at the lack of first team action this season. After an absence due to injury, Defoe was sent off in the Boxing Day game at Aston Villa and following his subsequent suspension, Harry Redknapp only picked him sporadically.
Defoe took until March to register his first Premier League goal, but was still left on the bench in the main for the last part of the season.
Speaking to Sky Sports the player said: “I want to help the club achieve things, win trophies and get in the Champions League, but when you feel like you are working hard, training hard and being professional, and then for some reason you are not playing, it is difficult.
Although many articles that emerged following this interview insist that Defoe is committed to Spurs, same may argue that his comments are contradictory.
“If you speak to any of the players and the fans, they will tell you that I am committed to the club,” he said.
“I love the club and I still get the same buzz that I did when I first walked out at White Hart Lane, which is important.
“But for me the main thing is playing football and if I am not playing football then I am not happy, because I love my football.”
Defoe has been the subject of speculation linking him with a move to the north east and it will be interesting to see how things develop over the summer. It seems unlikely that Defoe is going to become a first team regular while Rafael van der Vaart is around, so Defoe may have to depart to get the regular starting role he craves.

The best way for him to do that is to leave.
He’s played pathetically for the most part. Can’t head for toffee, knocked of the ball like a child, and has no tricks to get around defenders.

Jermaine is not playing for a reason. As per what TMWNN said, cant head a ball, does get knocked off the ball like a boy playing football against his dad, loves being offside, is not as pacy as some believe and loves to smash the ball with his eye’s closed.
He is a poor’s mans Ian Wright……i’d have no problems if he left.
