Spurs centre half Bongani Khumalo finally made his first senior start of any kind in Tuesday night’s 1-1 draw with Orlando Pirates and by all accounts, turned in a reasonable performance.
After arriving in the January transfer window, Spurs fans were only able to see him on the subs bench before he was loaned out to Preston. The championship side were impressed with his play before he returned to Tottenham due to injury.

The player himself declared that he was happy with his game, although he is some way from being completely match fit.

“I felt good to get the opportunity and obviously I’m very grateful for that,” he said.

“I was out for the couple of months and now I’ve just started with the pre-season. To be fair, I was alright tonight and I think I did well for the team though I still lack some fitness.”

Earlier this month, it seemed that Khumalo was on his way to Scotland for a loan spell with Rangers but with Jonathan Woodgate having left the club and rumours persisting over a departure for Bassong, perhaps he should be retained in the Spurs squad for the coming season?

  1. I have to disagree. I thought he looked a bit ropey. Preston fans were very impressed with him last year. Maybe the championship is his level at the moment.

  2. must admit i wasnt convinced. he didnt do enough to close down for the goal and overall he seemed unsure of his positioning and perhaps even his own ability. maybe just needs to gain some confidence.

  3. It is never gonna be his best game but I think he showed enough (for a big step up for him), to show he will be a very good CB.

  4. After his first game for us not bad ~ remember a lot of pressure on him to perform for us as well as in front of his home supporters (Country of origin)?

Like Pinnaer, I think he’s a bit of a house hold name over there…….

  5. Send him out on loan again, Kyle Walker came on leaps and bounds at Villa, hope that Caulker, and Naughton do the same. Spurs fans will then be a little more satisfied regarding where we are heading with our youth development. with walker back in the first team, Corluka should be played central this year, his lack of pace wont be so exposed then, therefor Khumalo must be loaned
