Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has become accustomed to being unable to call on the services of Steven Pienaar since the South African midfielder joined the club in last season’s January transfer window.
Pienaar’s early Spurs career has been blighted by injuries and that pattern has continued with news that the groin injury he picked up against Athletic Bilbao at the weekend will see him sidelined for around six weeks.
After joining in January, Pienaar has so far made just 11 first team appearances and Spurs fans were finally given a glimpse of his potential with a decent performance in our win over Liverpool at Anfield. Sadly for the player, it will be some time before he gets another chance at an extended run in the first team.
Yawn. Don’t need him, don’t want him. Unfortunately, no one else probably does either. He has absolutely no value and his transfer goes down as a big flop.
Totally agree. Redknapp said that he will not be buying a player unless it will improve the team. How has pienaar’s arrival improved the team exactly?
Pienaar’s was a good idea six month ago but Danny rose has come on quiet alot over past 6 month and get the feel he caught the sickness bug that seem to get at least one player at spurs… the Darren Anderton effect
Dont understand why he was bought.. nor do i understand the idea of buying a 40 year old keeper, even though it was on a free. We already have cudicini as a backup.
Disagree with you guys. Pienaar is a more natural left midfielder than Kranjcar or Modric (not saying better). Pienaar plays across midfield. Uses both feet. Can attack and can defend. A more solid option when you need it. Plus do not jump the gun. It is not easy to join a team in January and impress. Also players like Modric & Berbatov took several months to impress – admittedly coming from other leagues.
He did all of those positive things you are mentioning….with Everton. We have seen approximately 90 minutes of “good” play from Pienaar. I hope he gets healthy and wish him nothing but the best but he has not been a good signing.
cant agree with you tonyrich, he just looked good in an average everton team as he had to shine for them, he is just a bussier version of Jenas mate, offers little to the team. just harry trying to make a buck on another cheap signing!
