Harry Redknapp said there were many positives to take out of last night’s game after Spurs exited the Carling Cup.
The game finished 0-0 after extra time before Tottenham crashed out 7-6 on penalties. Those spot kicks were missed by Roman Pavlyuchenko with an effort that his compatriots in the Rugby World Cup would have been proud of and Massimo Luongo, who did manage to find the target, if not the net.
“I was pleased with how some of the kids played, they came in and did a great job,” said Harry after the game.
“Jake Livermore and Tom Carroll in midfield were excellent, top class. We got Sandro back and Rafa played 50, 60 minutes as well, which he needed.
“The back four was strong and the two centre-halves were outstanding.”
There was no blame attached to Luongo of course and Harry was pleased with his overall performance. The name of Massimo Luongo has been introduced to Spurs fans in a memorable way for the wrong reasons, but he looks to have staked a claim for some Europa League football later in the season.
This makes me mad not because we lost well just a little but because Harry played a friendly for Gallas and used Bostock Coulibaly Parret these players along with the two Spaniish lads and Gallas should have played against Stoke. This could have bean the team Corluka Bassong Kaboul Ekotto Townsend Bostock Gallas Livermore Coulibaly Defoe or Kane

you guys must have forgot about Raziak! LOL must admit I am shocked that HR doesnt use Bostock? he is much more developed than caroll, but HR obviously isnt happy with his attitude. At least Gio and Kranks are now being used by HR, that is a positive. Livermore is becoming a good squad player 🙂
Pavlyuchenko showed that he did not want to be playing for Spurs. He made no effort to play football. So why did Harry let him stay on the pitch until the end? Surely it would have been better to replace him with a player who was keen to make an impression. Harry Kane was on the bench.
Dos Santos also looked out of place. Cristian Ceballos who is a highly creative midfield player was on the bench. He should have been given game time especially when Spurs ran out of ideas.
Because Pav is a valuable asset (at least on paper) and has often scored goals out of the blue in games where the rest of his performance was pants. Maybe a goal for him would have given him a boost and kick started his season.
I thought he was very poor in all 3 of his games this season but if Ade gets injured, he is (at this stage) more likely to be called upon as a replacement than Kane or Coulibaly, so its best to try to play him into some form rather than just dump him.
BTW does anyone honestly think he doesnt try/doesnt want to play well? I dont – I think he is limited, lacking in confidence at the moment, not getting a great supply, playing with youngsters, etc etc but it is a bit harsh saying he isnt trying at all.
Not long ago, many Spurs fans were saying he was our best striker.
If he was trying, then surely you would see him running around. When he just stands around waiting for the ball to come to him, you have to wonder. Pav apparently went with his agents to Levy to ask to leave the club in the summer with Sunderland one of the clubs he wanted to move to.
As a manager, it must be a priority to win the game. Now Spurs are out of the cup with no more opportunities to develop their youngsters in the competition. Surely winning the game was more important than giving 120 minutes to Pav, just to see if he may do something out of the blue. If Spurs were 3-0 up, then I can understand playing an out of form player to see if he can get better. But in this situation Spurs needed to score a goal and it was looking very remote that Pav would ever score.
