You would think that the last thing that Spurs need right now is another midfielder, but that hasn’t stopped the rumour mills linking the club with a whole host of players from across Europe.
The latest of these is 26 year old Italian international Riccardo Montolivo whose contract is up at the end of the season. Having already made signals that he wants to leave Fiorentina, it’s thought that the club will be ready to cash in during January’s transfer window in an attempt to secure any transfer fee they can.
Since announcing his intentions to leave, the player has allegedly received death threats via Facebook which are unlikely to keep him in Italy for too long.
Montolivo is a ‘deep lying playmaker’ with 27 caps for his country and the story suggests that Spurs officials have already been in Italy to try and negotiate a deal directly with the club.
This could have as much to do with Harry’s eye for a bargain as anything else and while we may not need another midfielder at the Lane, Riccardo Montolivo looks a good option if the price is right.
As I said previously, I wish it was true!
He is someone who really can help Spurs improve.
But I think he will join one of the Italian top clubs.
