Striker links with Spurs continue to dominate the transfer columns and the latest player to have his name mentioned in connection with a move to the Lane is a Swiss centre forward who is currently making a name for himself in the Bundesliga.

Eren Derdiyok is 23 years old and plays for Bayer Leverkusen, having joined from FC Basle in 2009. He plays as a second striker and has 34 caps for his country after making his debut against England in February 2008 – a match that marked Fabio Capello’s first game in charge.

The stories that are surfacing mention the words ‘prolific’ and ‘goal scoring instinct’ but when you analyse his record, the figures don’t back up the claims.

In those 34 games for Switzerland he has found the net just 3 times while for Leverkusen he has scored 20 goals in 71 league games. His record throughout his career is similar.

It’s believed that Spurs’ scouts saw Derdiyok score a spectacular goal against Wolfsburg recently but when you look at his overall record, you may hope that they keep hold of the suggested £7.5m transfer fee and look elsewhere.

  1. IF STATEMENT IS TRUE THAT WAS MADE BY MATTHEW HARRIS I MUST AGREE TOTALLY NOW IF HE WAS GOING TO BE A RUSH OR A FOWLER OR A HUGHES OR A LINAKEAR WELL THAT WOULD BE DIFFERENT .

  2. There is another affordable “Damiao” lurking on the cheap. That’s the duty of appointed scouts to trace them. Spurs must start working on this right away through their Brazilian contacts.
