The one area where there appear to be no Spurs’ vacancies at present is in midfield although that fact didn’t stop Harry dipping into the transfer market and picking up Steven Pienaar last January.

Recently we’ve seen the Eden Hazard rumour grow stronger and this week, Tottenham have been linked to Palermo’s Slovenian international Josep Ilicic.

Ilicic is an attacking central midfielder who will be 24 by the time the next transfer window closes. He has made a mark at Palermo since arriving there back in 2010 and since he made his international debut in the same year, he has gone on to gain 14 caps for Slovenia.

It’s thought that it may take as much as £25m to lure the player away from his current employers and given the wealth of talent already in the Spurs’ midfield, perhaps this particular story is a non starter.

If Spurs are to strengthen their midfield, a more established player would be a better option and as such, maybe Eden Hazard is the one player that could be worth pursuing in January.

  1. We have 3 attacking mids (at least) already — VdV, Modric, Kranjcar.

In order of importance we need these positions strengthened; forward, goal, RM, defense.
    That’s it.

The only reason to get someone for another position is to REPLACE someone we have. And if we’re going to replace the backup player it should be someone young (18-21) who can understudy the current starter. 24 is too old for that… by the time VdV will be replaced he’d be ~28.
