Transfer speculation surrounding Tottenham has hit something of a media frenzy in recent days and the name of Moussa Dembele has appeared in the press once again this morning.
The 24 year old Belgian international has been at the heart of some good Fulham performances under Martin Jol but that has only served to put the midfielder back under the transfer spotlight. The comparison with Rafael van der Vaart has also come to light again and here is what his current manager had to say about that.
“In a few months, maybe a year, he will be like Rafa van der Vaart,” said Jol last year. “Dembele will learn and go on to become one of the best players in the Premier League.”
VDV himself has endured a mixed season and his goal scoring run last September is starting to be something of a distant memory. As for Dembele, other observers feel he would flourish if he played alongside better players as an unnamed source suggested.
“His end product is an issue. But if you play him in the right role with the right players he can make an impact.”
If the mystery source is correct, could it be time to swap the original VDV for a new model?
