With Euro 2012 finally under way this is a chance for Europe’s media to seek out new talent and link it with a move to a new club. As with all of these stories, the division between truth and gossip is often hard to ascertain so it is unclear as to whether Spurs will be making an offer for FC Twente’s Luuk de Jong.

The 21 year old now has 7 caps for his country with just the one strike to his name although he does average around a goal every other game at domestic level. Those efforts back home have attracted the attention of a number of clubs but when questioned about his future, the player himself believed he would be staying put.

“I have still heard nothing and I therefore assume that I just stay at Twente,” he said

“Perhaps something very attractive will come. Then I’ll consider it.”

Other clubs linked with the player include Newcastle and Bayern Munich but success in Holland is by no means guaranteed elsewhere. However, as back up striker options at the Lane there will be worse players than Luuk de Jong mentioned this summer.

  1. It never ceases to amaze me that even our own suppposed fans buy into the nonsense written in the low class press. For instance, Spurs are linked with every Tom, Dick and Harry worldwide by the gutter press without a shred of evidence to back it up. When that phantom transfer does’nt materialise, Spurs are said to have lossed out when infact they have never been in it in the first place.
