When Steven Pienaar joined Spurs in January 2011, many Spurs fans were scratching their heads as to why the player had been brought in. At £3m and with a good reputation, it seemed like a reasonable price but with Gareth Bale dominating the left side of midfield, the player’s chances were always going to be limited.
It didn’t help that Spurs fans were waiting for the big signing of that particular window. Instead, all we got was Harry telling reporters that nothing was happening before an attempt to sign Charlie Adam was lucky enough to miss the deadline.
18 months on and Steven is back where he is happiest. In 18 games and one goal, we never saw the best of him and with respect to the player, this was one of the club’s more pointless signings in recent years.
