We’ve already seen that Spurs have been strongly linked with Rennes’ French international midfielder Yann M’Vila but it’s also being claimed that the club had another defensive midfielder watched at the weekend.

24 year old Toulouse player Étienne Capoue was in action against Montpelier the night before scouts supposedly watched M’Vila but the story which seems to have originated from the Metro newspaper may be wide of the mark in claiming that Capoue is the club’s top target.

The Toulouse man is 2 years older than M’Vila but has yet to play in a full international for France – M’Vila has 22 caps. That would however suggest that he is a cheaper option and the fee in question is reported as being in the region of £10 million.

However, despite being at his current club since 2007, Capoue is seen as a late developer and after a breakthrough season in 2011-12, has now attracted the interest of a number of overseas clubs.

With five days to go before the big kick off, will Capoue or anyone arrive in time for the start of the new campaign?
