The sale of Luka Modric has finally been confirmed on the club website after it became increasingly likely that the deal would be done early this week.

What we didn’t expect however is the confirmation of a ‘partnership agreement’ between the two clubs.

‘The Club can announce that it has signed a partnership agreement with Real Madrid FC and reached agreement for the transfer of Luka Modric, subject to medical, to the Spanish club.

The partnership agreement will see the two Clubs working together in respect of players, coaching, best practices and commercial relationships.’

“Luka has been a terrific player for us and, whilst we preferred not to part with him, we are pleased that it is to Real Madrid, a club with which we now look forward to sharing a long and productive partnership,” added Daniel Levy.

So Luka has gone but the comments are intriguing – what will they mean for Spurs moving forward?

  1. It means we are now Madrids feeder club, and first options are in place for Walker and Bale……….. Can’t really see much of an upside at mom

  2. I don’t really see how this will benefit us that much players wise. Ultimately players will still be traded on their market value. If these partnerships held that much strength then we would have ended up with Oscar.

It’s all part of Levy’s grand football masterplan. Levy is pretty much one of the most shrewd business men around so I have faith.

    • Pretty sure our deal with International was to do with players from their youth system and for some reason Oscar didn’t qualify – cant remember exactly why…

  3. Spurs must have already signed a replacement, as they have said all along that the Modric deal would not be announced until they had one. The new player (Moutinho?) will probably be confirmed after Modric’s has completed his medical.

  4. I guess we now official in Daniel Levy week, and more precisely 31 aug is Daniel Levy day.. I am even surprised this deal got announced and there is – what – nearly 100 hours of the transfer window to go.. Tick, tock, tick, tock.. You gotta love being a spurs fan. The off field antics keep just as excited, stressed as entertained as our on field exertions.
