We’d all like to forget about the corresponding fixture last season when Norwich won 2-1 to help dent our chances of third place.

However, if you’re the type of supporter who analyses stats then here is some information on both sides’ progress so far this season. It might help you decide if we have a chance of blowing three points again…

.               New Spurs boss Andre Villas Boas is still waiting for his first win with Spurs after a late equaliser meant his team could only manage a 1-1 draw with West Brom

•             Benoit Assou-Ekotto scored for Spurs, while young star Jake Livermore put in a huge contribution with 7.09 miles covered, the third highest distance covered by an individual player so far this season

•             Spurs striker Jermain Defoe is a player who divides opinion, but so far this season his shooting stats have matched those of Manchester City hotshot Carlos Tevez. Both have had 11 attempts at goal in the first two games, with 8 on target.

•             Defoe has also made the second highest number of attacking runs off the ball in the EA SPORTS Player Performance Index with 111, showing the work he does in creating space for his team mates

•             Norwich came up against QPR at the weekend as both teams looked to bounce back from 5-0 defeats on the opening weekend of the season

•             The Canaries had to settle for a point in the end, with Simeon Jackson scoring in a 1-1 draw

•             Anthony Pilkington provided the cross for that goal, and covered 5.9 miles during the game, second only to new signing Robert Snodgrass who covered the most distance for Norwich with 5.97 miles

•             Snodgrass also delivered seven crosses in the game, the joint highest of the second round of matches, shared with his opponent this weekend Gareth Bale

•             Meanwhile, midfielder Bradley Johnson has committed more fouls than any other player in the league so far this season with ten

•             Jonathon Howson has completed more passes in his own half than any other player who will be on display in this game with 42, ahead of Spurs’ Sandro with 39

•             However, Norwich will need to turn their attacking play into chances to have a chance against Spurs. Only Bradley Johnson has managed more than one shot on target for the Canaries so far this season.

  1. Hey guys – Spurs adoptee from US here following EPL for first time. Certainly not an expert on fb. A few questions….

    1) Is this all coaching with AVB? I’m looking at a team that realistically could be 0-3 after two homes games against inferior opponents if not for Freidel playing very well. Norwich could have had three goals easily by my count today without Brad playing well. I am worried – is this type of start normal? Today, it seemed like they didn’t even want to be out there – no energy and completely outplayed by Norwich for most if not all of the game.

    2) Was the lack of scoring opportunities (I didn’t see any good ones and the score by Dembele was simply an awesome play by him and not really a team goal) simply because they miss the creative midfielder type (i.e. Modric or Moutinho)? I wasn’t very impressed with Sig today but I don’t know who else could take that role on – maybe Dembele. Even going back to West Albion, they only scored on a lucky deflection – not a great setup or anything.

    3) Do Lennon and Bale dribble across the field and into the middle with the ball as they did today? Is that breaking from the “system” or is this freedom encouraged by AVB?

Again, new follower here so sorry if these are dumb questions – just a little worried by the showing against two supposedly inferior teams at home. Dempsey may help but he isn’t as much a creator as he is a finisher.

  2. Forget this match , im so angry Daniel Levy has taken the piss out of each and every tottenham supporter this is serious. What happend to all the money we were going to be given to spend , because if you take the money we spent from the money of the sales of players you will see that the club only actually spent about 3 and a half million pounds this transfer window was about balancing the books , we could easily have afforded to buy Damiao , willian , Moutinho , llorente , hulk we easily have enough money at spurs to be able to buy any of these players . We need to stop Mr Levy and Mr Lewis and force them to resign else the will continue to happen , every year is the same lets get them out now because this cant happen again. Ive supported Spurs for 40 years and this is the worst i have ever felt as a Spurs supporter.

    • Yet again defeat plucked straight from the jaws of victory! Tom Huddlestone looked and played like a chap out for revenge – on all counts! What was AVB doing bringing him on??

Mr Levy, this is NOT about you no matter what YOU might think! Kindly leave your ego behind and try to see the bigger picture and BUY some players. The team needs another creative midfielder and no, Scottie Parker (when he’s fit) running around in circles and passing 3 – 4 metres back and sideways does not cut it! Has made a professional career out of conning folk into thinking running around like a blowfly is a good substitute for vision and pace.

As for JD, he may run around and pick up the odd goal but he doesn’t look remotely like a striker out to cut your throat. I’m tired of watching him running impossible lines looking for the miracle pass and then sulking when he’s unable to compete for the ball. Grace and guile!! Bring the opposition centre halves out and use the gaps this creates! Lennon needs a spell on the bench too. Teams have worked Spurs out – beating us is easy as long as they keep their back 4 together and the linking midfielders double team our wide men…

  3. we suck. much better than we are showing, but other teams have no fear of us at the moment. i don’t know if were going to get the same production from middle without a good replacement for mods. just looks like were kicking the ball around until we find an opening. against a compact squad, we are not going to score.
