Unless Spurs take the unlikely step of loaning Steven Caulker out to a Championship side once the relevant window is open, the centre half is set for a full season at White Hart Lane. Caulker reminded the club that he has plenty to offer at the back after an assured display was rounded off with the opening goal for England Under 21’s as they saw off Azerbaijan last night.

“We came here to get the three points and we managed to do that,” Steven said after the game.

“We feel that we could be better performance-wise, but it was the result that mattered and we’re over the moon. I was delighted to get on the scoresheet.”

After an impressive spell with Swansea last year, Caulker had a decent Olympics with Team GB and while he has been retained in the Spurs squad for this season, he still awaits his first league appearance in a Tottenham shirt.

Maybe he should be given that chance when Spurs travel to Reading next Sunday?

  1. Agreed, Caulker should start ahead of Gallas, who looked out of sorts for long stretches against Norwich. Caulker is better suited for AVB’s style, and will be hungry to prove he belongs.
