In a recent press conference, Spurs’ head coach Andre Villas-Boas was very complimentary about some of the fringe members of the squad and Andros Townsend was one of those singled out for a mention.
Townsend had just appeared as a second half substitute for Tottenham against Aston Villa and was shortly to score his third goal for the club away to Carlisle in the Capital One Cup. Andros is now in the England under 21 squad but faces a similar fight to that of Steven Pienaar last season if he is to get a regular place in Tottenham’s starting XI.
“From the first moment this season, he’s tried to fight for a place in the team,” said assistant manager Steffen Freund.
“Can you imagine, as 21 year-old, you have in front of you Gareth Bale, one of the best wingers around?
“Andros keeps going, he trains well, he’s always there if you need him, always strong, creates something, he played fantastic at Carlisle and scored as well. It’s fantastic to work with Andros because he likes to improve and I think over the next few years, he’ll be one of the biggest talents in England.”
For now, Townsend will have to remain patient but is he a capable deputy for Bale at this level?
The simple answer is yes and he can also play left back in emergency he has all the tools speed trickery and a finish. The only thing missing is believe in his ability and the time to use it, we could have a lot of English Internationals soon and that excites me a lot. Coys
I think he is more than an able deputy for either of our wingers. The fact that he is two-footed means that he can be be equally effective on both flanks.
The kid has got a bright future providing he continues to work hard and doesn’t become distracted by off-field temptations.
Would like to see him given more playing time in the Europa league, allowing us to rest either Bale or Lenny. Great prospect… just needs games. I’m a big fan.
Andros will be the neaxt real deal. The kid has pace, skill, passion and can score, no doubt about that, and also can play on both wings. Just needs game time to hone his skill and build up his confidence.

Simply yes. Caulker & Townsend both have long career’s ahead at Spurs, and hopefully plently of England caps! He needs to start more games to progress further but what I’ve seen is impressive. Check the lastest England Under 21 training session Townsend & Sterling are the stand outs
I think Townsend is a better player than Sterling. The thing about Sterling is he’s very young and is a good player, so naturally he’s been REALLY hyped up. I’ve seen 3 maybe 4 Liverpool games (including highlights from MOTD) and i can’t say i’ve seen anything particularly impressive. But I’m pleasantly surprised with the amount of qulity, intelligence and tekkers i’ve seen from Townsend. Good on ya lad. COYS!!!
Townsend is good and he will get better and better!

Personally he needs to get some starts in the prem and run him out in every other competition.
