In the second round of world cup qualifiers, Tottenham’s England stars were left either frustrated in Poland or abused in Serbia. While it was an unhappy night for some, others enjoyed more success on the field.
In Spain, Hugo LLoris earned the gratitude of his country with a penalty save from Cesc Fabregas that kept France in the match and after a late equaliser from Olivier Giroud, this group remains particularly close.
Challenging Hugo for the most impressive display of the night was Clint Dempsey. Clint had been quoted as saying that he was targeting more strikes at club level and as the USA took on Guatemala last night, his two goals and an assist helped provide a 3-1 contribution.
Jermain Defoe may start for England today but reports suggest that the pitch in Poland is no better and while it’s been a mixed week for our international players there are, thankfully, no reports of any injuries.
