One transfer story that we didn’t touch on this week was the potential interest from Chelsea in Benoit Assou-Ekotto. The Stamford Bridge side were supposedly looking for a potential replacement for Ashley Cole, who was rumoured to be on his way, and BAE’s consistency appealed to Roberto Di Matteo.

One thing you can generally say about BAE is that he is consistent: Injuries are rare – although he followed an absence at the end of 2011-12 with a further lay off at the beginning of this campaign -and he is generally a solid performer who is rarely noticed during a game.

Mention of Benny’s name does tend to split opinion on here however so would you be sorry to see him go if the club did receive an offer?

Selling would be easier if we had a ready made replacement but Spurs have moved a left winger, a right back and a centre half to cover for BAE in his absence and that would suggest going back into the market in January.

Time will tell but we may get a clue if AVB decides to leave out a fully fit Assou-Ekotto in the games that are coming up.

  1. BAE is soon 29. Why should Chelsea replace Cole with a 29 year old? Fabricated news. Why would we sell now, unless Ekotto never settles into AVB’s system? I disagree with the “rarely noticed” bit. His play probably generates more applauses from the crowd than most of the team. Then when he does bite off more than he can chew, he generates groans. You certainly notice him.

  2. REGARDLESS TO ALL COMENTS EKOTTO IS FAR TO VALUABLE TO SPURS HE IS THE BEST LEFT BACK IN THE PREMIERSHIP , EKOTTO MUST REMAIN AT WHL HE IS THE PIVOT IN DEFENCE AND HE READS OUR DEFENCE SO WELL HE KNOWS EXACTLY WHERE TO BE .

  3. best left back??? do you watch football? the drag/cut backs piss me off never looks fully in controll and most crosses from his side get to the box. p.s his crossing like walkers is pony. how can you call yourself an attacking full back if you cant get a cross in the box????

  4. I am stunned by these comments! Hes a liability, lazy, always out of position, fouls when beaten by the opposition, admits to not even having a passion for playing the game which is clear to see when times are tough he doesnt put his heart and soul on the line for the team, get rid of him.

Weak link in our team. And theres no way chelsea would take him either!

    • Thank you! It’s not a surprise we’ve looked better with Vertonghen playing left back. BAE’s a liability, and I’ve never understood why other Spurs supporters rate him so. We should definitely look for a replacement this summer. And maybe one day we’ll buy a striker too…
