After a successful week in the Premier League, attention now switches to European competition and our crucial tie with Panathinaikos tomorrow night. A draw will be sufficient to take us through to the last 32 but it’s unlikely that the side will be settling back in the hope of claiming a solitary point.

Andre Villas-Boas will have a decision to make up front as Emmanuel Adebayor is available – does AVB rest Jermain Defoe ahead of Sunday’s visit to Goodison Park or will he play both men together in an attacking 4-4-2 in an all out attempt to claim three points?

It seems likely that Defoe will feature at some stage and our in-form striker has urged fans to get behind the team.

“We always have fantastic support and that helps the lads to perform,” Defoe says on the official club website. “We want to get through to the knockout stage of the competition and as we’ve said all along, we want to do something special this season.

There may be a suggestion that there’s a more subdued atmosphere with some fans questioning the importance of the Europa. However, tomorrow is a big European night at the Lane once again but in reality, the club really shouldn’t need a 12th man in order to progress.
