There’s no official team news from the club website at the time of writing but there are two significant reports from other sources regarding injury. It’s claimed that Clint Dempsey continues to struggle with the groin problem that forced him out of Saturday’s game against Stoke while Benoit Assou-Ekotto may finally be set to return after a long standing knee problem.

Andre Villas-Boas must surely be tempted to throw BAE straight back into the side and move Jan Vertonghen back into the centre to form what might even be a first choice centre back pairing with Michael Dawson.

Elsewhere, there is a suggestion that Scott Parker will start the game after two substitute appearances. With a busy holiday period ahead, it might make sense to rest Sandro but will AVB really make the switch?

The other main question is the usual one regarding formation – will the coach keep 4-4-2 or consider 4-2-3-1 away from home and bring Sigurdsson or Carroll into the equation? Would five in the midfield allow AVB to play Parker and Sandro this evening?

Here’s our prediction but what’s your view?

Resting Sandra does sound like a good idea and I’m sure Parker would relish a start

  2. I would go for a 4-3-3

    Ade doesnt deserve to start

Sandro could do with a breather.I’ll give Ade the opportunity to find some form against a fragile Villa backline. With the possibility of him still heading away to the ANC, i think it makes sense to use him while his still here. Townsend, for me, needs games and experience at this level to fulfil his potential, so today seems as good a game as any to give him his chance to start in the EPL. Gyfil looks to be finding his feet at Spurs after a disappointing start. His recent cameo performances against fulham, everton and swansea have given us all a glimpse of what he is capable of offering the side. Needs/deserves a start.
