Yesterday’s win over West Bromwich Albion was sealed by a very special piece of Gareth Bale magic. Throughout the game, our Welsh winger seemed the only one likely to break the deadlock and having tested Ben Foster in the first half, Bale’s unstoppable drive snatched the points.

That strike alone would have been enough to claim the Man of the Match award in some eyes but are there any other candidates?

Hugo Lloris was one name widely mentioned after the match. The Frenchman made some important saves, particularly in the first half and he exhibited two particular qualities some would say are rarely seen in a continental goalkeeper.

Firstly, he stopped shots at point blank range without parrying them De Gea style into the path of an attacker and secondly, he looks reasonably comfortable on crosses.

Elsewhere, Aaron Lennon looked busy again in midfield but could he or Scott Parker take the award? Would any of the back four have a claim?

What’s your view – is Bale the only real choice here?

  1. I agree Holtby was the other obvious candidate – perhaps the only one really.
Bale’s brilliance is tending to cover up some big cracks up front at the moment though; a bit worrying.
I like Le Octopus too, he’s off his line like a greyhound whenever our high defensive line is about to be caught out.

  2. Lennon, I thought was great in the First half, Bale, from his late first half shot up to the end, was magnificent and deserves the MOTM.
Holtby impressed me greatly. Busy, always looking to get on the ball and looks like he has an eye for a pass. Hopefully a star in the making

  3. holtby looks a great little player very mich like vdv the way he plays – demsey was shocking again if seems he can only score tap ins

  4. very happy with Holtby. seems like he fits right in, however, we need a real striker up front. can’t rely on Bale wonder goals if we are to make top 4. I am nervous about the schedule going forward. its seems like we have it the toughest compared to Chelsea and Arsenal. I dont think we have to worry about Everton.
