Hugo Lloris missed out when Spurs took on a strong Lyon side at White Hart Lane but our French goalkeeper remains hopeful of facing his former club in the return leg this Thursday. Hugo also feels that the match over two legs is a tie worthy of the Champions League itself.

“It could almost be a Champions League game between two top sides in Europe,” Lloris said.

“For us, it’s a good test to play against a good team, we have a chance and we have to take it.”

Hugo feels that although Lyon have suffered following a player exodus, they retain enough quality for Thursday’s game.

“Many players left Lyon in the last transfer window and the situation at the club isn’t easy at the moment but they can trust in their academy and still have great players like Lisandro Lopez and Bafetimbi Gomis,” he added.

Lyon may have been weakened but they maintained a strong challenge in Ligue 1 with a 4-0 win over Bordeaux at the weekend. Hugo Lloris may not face his former team mates in the return leg either but he knows that the French unit will provide a strong challenge to our Europa League hopes.
