When Harry Kane returned to Spurs from his loan spell at Norwich, it seemed that the 19 year old would be first reserve should anything happen to senior strikers Jermain Defoe and Emmanuel Adebayor.

However, the England under 19 international could have a rival in the shape of team mate Jonathan Obika. Both players have made contributions as Spurs under 21 side continue to shine in their version of the Premier League but it’s Obika who has stolen more of the headlines in recent times.

The youngsters beat their Manchester United counterparts by three goals to one at the weekend and Obika notched all three of them. While Kane has largely been injured during a goalless loan spell at Norwich, Obika has been consistent in the under 21 league throughout the campaign. However, Kane’s overall record whilst out on loan is much better.

Looking ahead to next season, if Spurs look to revert to four strikers at the club then there would be a place for one of these youngsters in the squad. But who would be on the bench and who would find himself out on loan once again?

  1. Jon Obika Has More To Offer,Stronger,Power,Several Times
He Shows Me A Player Who Can Handle Himself Against Strong Defenders & Will Blossom. Also Several More Young

  2. saw them both when Kane was with Orient and Obika at Swindon (I believe). Kane looked the more accomplished player, but I’m not sure he will ever be a premiership regular. Obika looks stronger as you say, but don’t think his eye for goal will necessarily translate to a higher division.

  3. neither of them are good enough for championship let alone premiership. this is maon reason why tottenham will finish minimum of 9 points from champions league position.

  4. saw Kane play at Norwich and thought he was a strong player but lacked composure, I think he’d make it in the Championship but not in the premiership. shame as it did look like another good young English striker was on his way up through the ranks. I’ve not seen the Obika, so have no idea about him.

  5. Yup. Soulimane Coulibaly is the one we need to give a run out in the first team. He is on loan at the moment.
I don’t understand his being loaned out. If you’re good enough you are old enough. Surely he can’t do any worse than Adebayor.
Hope to see him back at the lane very soon.
Can players be bought back early from a loan?
    Please bring him back.
I’ve seen Kane more than Obika. I don’t think Kane has what it takes. Obika a little raw but has potential.
In Coulibaly we have a gem.
Tottenham please give him a chance. Do not lose another talented youngster because of lack of opportunities.

    • We would be able to call him back, yes, so long as we didn’t command a fee for his loan move (which, I doubt we did).
However, I do not see him back at the lane this season.
After reading around on other forums, I believe the main reason for his loan move was home sickness, which does not bode too well for the future.
