Spurs fans could have been forgiven for dismissing the early rumours over a summer bid for Gonzalo Higuain as mere paper talk. However, the story has gained momentum over the last few days and reports from Spain suggest that there is real substance to the link.

Higuain is just 25 and has been at Real since joining from River Plate back in 2007. His recent goal scoring exploits have been overshadowed by a certain team mate, currently averaging a goal a game, but the Argentine has notched an impressive return of 10 strikes from 180 appearances in La Liga.

Perhaps the most surprising aspect of the story is the claim that Higuan is on a relatively modest £63k a week at Real – a figure that Spurs could easily match and improve upon, provided that Champions League football returns to the Lane.

The stories over Higuain have prompted more unsubstantiated rumours concerning Robert Lewandowksi. The level of truth in either of these links is open to debate but could Spurs be ready to make a true marquee signing when the transfer window opens again?

  1. Maybe a typo, but… How is “10 strikes from 180 appearances in La Liga” impressive in any way???

Thats in Andy Booth or Gregor Rasiak territory FFS!!!!

  2. My Girlfriend could probably knock-in 11 goals in 180 games…and she’d play for a pair of shoes, a Handbag and a snog with AVB.

  3. Just so people know, its a typo hes actually scored 100 in 180 appearances for Real… thats not starts either .. includes games where hes come of the bench for 20 mins or so.

    • I am not actually that impressed by Higuain, yes he is better than what he have got, who isn’t..

But I watch him and he doesnt really offer enough to play upfront alone.

I would go all out for both Benteke and Michu this summer, WE DONT NEED ANYTHING ELSE EXCEPT STRIKERS….at full back we have Adam Smith coming back who has looked class in the England U21’s and will be playing in a semi at Wembley next month and Danny Rose has been Sunderlands best player this season….added to Sandro coming back from injury and Townsend back from QPR

Whats the odds Levy goes and signs a central midfielder, a goalkeeper and a center back ;~)

  4. More worried that Bale would be part of the deal. Although my left bollock would score more goals than that although I wouldn’t be looking to score a 12th mind. Cringe.

  5. 100 in 180!!! Yep – all day long please – but not if they’re expecting Bale to go as part of the deal.
I think we’re actually in a good position to get this done. He want’s to come to London to be with his missus, we’ve got an ‘agreement’ with Madrid, They’ll get first dibs on Bale if he does end up leaving. Ensure that CL football is secured and we could be laughing
