Traffic from Arsenal to Spurs is less likely to create headlines than it may have done in the past but the latest rumour of a player link to White Hart Lane takes a little believing.

Belgian international Thomas Vermaelen arrived at the Emirates back in 2009 and made a positive impact in his first two seasons as a solid centre back who scored more than his fair share of goals at the other end. In recent seasons however, the 27 year old has suffered from injury and loss of form as is some way from being a certain starter on the other side of North London.

Vermaelen arrived from Ajax four years ago in a deal worth around £10m but with the player supposedly surplus to requirements it’s though that he could be let go for around half of that sum.

It’s an easy link to make with Vermaelen potentially linking up with his international colleague Jan Vertonghen and the player could help to strengthen our defence but are Arsenal really that desperate to offload their club captain?

  1. The very fact that Vermy is a class above Vertonghen means you should try to sign him but don’t believe the dopy price the press are quoting.

As for the 4th & 5th place, I genuinely wish you well next season. We now have a common enemy in Chelski. We all know that this average club would have nothing to shout about unless their mafia man purchased it.

    • Vermaelen is no where near a class above Vertonghen, If we had a fit squad even Dawson and Kaboul would keep him off our first XI

  2. One other point to think on you Spuds. Stop your ‘one aim’ support ie ; to finish above AFC………you should be dreaming of finishing above anything from Lancashire! We at AFC only think about the Spuds a week before we play you? Why, well because we know who we have to beat to win something or finish high up in the league.

  3. Vermaelen plays on the left side of the centre of defence, the same position as Vertonghen who is better. Vertonghen was put off Arsenal because they wanted to play him in midfield and he has to play left-back for Belgium because of Vermaelen. If you were Vermaelen would you want to join a team Vertonghen plays for? I doubt Jan would be too happy about it either. That said, I can see us trying to sign as many Belgian players as possible.
