Reports emerging in the last 24 hours have linked Spurs with a summer move for Atletico Mineiro’s Bernard Anício Caldeira Duarte – you can call him Bernard for short. He plays as an attacking midfielder and has an impressive goals to game ratio that seems to have led to a great deal of interest around Europe.
“I have five clubs interested in Bernard,” said Atletico’s President Alexandre Kalil. “I will find it very difficult to keep Bernard after the Libertadores.”
One of the clubs currently linked is Borussia Dortmund who are seeking a replacement for the outgoing Mario Gotze but there is suspicion that Tottenham are also involved.
“It’s true that Dortmund have made a bid for Bernard but an English team is closer to signing him,” Kalil added.
There’s no real evidence that Spurs are that club but parts of the Brazilian press seem certain that this is the case. At 20, Bernard looks a huge prospect and one eye catching stat is a record of 14 goals in 16 loan appearances for Democrata in 2010.
It’s a long way from there to the Premier League but it’s an interesting link, if there is any truth in it.
