With the media dominated by the Gareth Bale to Real Madrid rumours, it’s a little surprising that Spurs haven’t been linked with more wingers since the season came to an end. That might be changing from today but the name of Alex Kacaniklic might come as a bit of a shock.

Fulham’s Kacaniklic is versatile and can play on the left wing or in central midfield so in that sense he has the adaptability to fit the bill. He’s also just 21 so has time to develop and his goals to game ratio isn’t too bad either at around the one in six mark.

It’s reported that Spurs sent their Chief Scout to watch the player in Sweden’s recent game with Macedonia and if the club bases a file on that match alone, this could become a reality. Kacaniklic scored his second international goal – the only one of the game and also hit the crossbar in the win in what was described as an impressive all-round display.

He may not be the next Gareth Bale but as a squad member this won’t be the worst link to Spurs that we’ll see over the course of the summer.
