Rumours began to grow of a possible Spurs bid for Roma’s Argentine international striker Erik Lamela over the weekend after the media spotted the link between the player and Tottenham’s potential director of football Franco Baldini.

The connection is an obvious one to make but at this stage of his career, the 21 year old looks to be ready for the third striker berth at the very best. Lamela began his career with River Plate in 2009 and as an out and out striker, his record of four goals in 36 appearances is a disappointing one to say the least.

Things have improved a little since the player joined Roma in 2011 but his current record remains a modest one – 19 in 62. However, the forward is still young and is said to be highly rated by some of the tops clubs in Europe. Potential has also been spotted by the Argentine National Team who have already awarded two full caps to the youngster.

Overall, this looks like a case of a link being forged simply because of the connection with Baldini and the story already looks to be disappearing as quickly as it arrived.
