Spurs’ speculation has finally turned into Spurs fact with the first real piece of news this summer. It wasn’t entirely a surprise however as the club confirmed Franco Baldini as its new technical director.

A statement on Tottenham’s official website reads,

‘The former Bologna, Bari and Pescara player has previously held roles as General Director at Serie A Club Roma, Assistant Manager during Fabio Capello’s time in charge of England and as Sporting Director at Real Madrid.’

Chairman Daniel Levy went on to welcome the appointment.

“Franco is extremely well respected in the industry, possessing an extensive knowledge of players around the world,” Levy said.

“He will strengthen our football management team, particularly in the field of recruitment, working closely with Andre Villas-Boas and Tim Sherwood across all levels on the playing side.”

Spurs’ head coach has said that he would welcome the chance to work with Baldini and that may also influence his decision to turn down any approach from PSG to become their new manager. The press are full of reports this morning suggesting that AVB is staying put although they claim that his chief concern is the French Club’s desire to eventually work with Arsene Wenger.

So we hope that Franco and Andre form a productive partnership as we welcome the former to White Hart Lane. Do you think our new technical director has the qualities needed to bring some serious talent into this club?

  1. as I previously wrote, highly overrated – a real waste of money
ready to change my mind but I don’t see it happens!!!

  2. I think that this is a very good move for the club, Levy always thought that this is the way to go and more importantly, AVB wants it. A lot of major European clubs work well within this system and have done so for many years. This guy brings a wealth of experience to the table especially with his contacts globally which we can only benefit from. Franco wouldn’t have joined us if he wasn’t given certain assurances by Levy and let us not forget that his predecessors namely Frank Arnesen and Damien Camoli did bring in some real gems like Modric, Bale, Kaboul, Sgt Wilson, Lennon, Rose, Walker, Naughton, Prince Boetang (look what the guy is doing in Italy), BAE, Dawson. These guys far outweigh the duds such as Bentley and Gio,

  3. lets hope he knows more about football than that cunt levy who because of his actions in not signing a striker in 2 Jan transfer windows has cost us top 4 both seasons and cost the club millions of pounds in lost champions league revenue well done levy wanker
