Jermain Defoe was one of the players to talk openly about Tottenham’s new campaign yesterday and as he spoke about the need for Spurs to keep their best players, there was no doubt that he was referring specifically to Gareth Bale.
“It’s important to keep your best players and it doesn’t make any sense selling your best players,” he told Sky Sports News.
“For me, I want us to keep all of our best players as I want to play with top players. We want to get in the Champions League and we need to keep our top players.”
Referring specifically to Bale, JD added,
“On a personal note, it’s difficult to say much about it. Gaz had a fantastic year last year and the Premier League is one of the best leagues in the world.
“What he did last year was outstanding and if you do that you’re going to have other clubs after you.”
As JD spoke however, reports came in of a possible £6m approach from Stoke for the striker. The Potters struggled for goals under Tony Pulis last season and the suggestion is that Jermain could link up with Peter Crouch for the third time to provide the firepower that would give Mark Hughes’ men a more productive season.
Jermain Defoe’s comments are widely quoted today but would you count him among the best players that simply have to stay at the club?
No link with the subject of the article, but Belgian papers are full of rumors that we are about to sign Belgian international Nacer Chadli from Twente…
