Spurs confirmed the signing of 28 year old Spanish international striker Roberto Soldado yesterday and the player was quickly talking to the club about his hopes for the season. Roberto said that he was honoured to have signed for Tottenham and is looking to repay the club in the best way possible.

“I’m absolutely honoured to be at this club, to wear the shirt that has so much history. I’m hoping that I can score lots of goals to repay the club’s kindness in signing me,” Soldado said.

“Spurs is a great club and a club that deserves to be in the Champions League. I know it’s a hard league and we have to work and play to that level to get there and I will do my best for the team.”

The player also underlined his desire to fire Spurs back into the top four in the Premier League,

“My main aim is to get that number one striker shirt on the pitch and obviously, to score goals and try to get us into the Champions League, where we deserve to be,” he added.

The club confirmed that Roberto will wear the number nine shirt for next season and as yet, this is the only squad number to have been decided. It would suggest that he is AVB’s first choice striker but will anyone join him or are Tottenham settled on Soldado, Defoe and Adebayor as their three centre forwards for 2013-14?

  1. We need another top notch striker bought in. end of.

Yeah we can ‘hope’ that Ade bothers to turn up next season as we know he is capable of being very useful when he does …but lets face it CL teams dont wait and hope on lazy players and Ade wont be arsed.

We can ‘hope’ that JD goes on one of those goal scoring runs that gets him 20 goals a season…but he wont will he?

Nah get another hungry quality striker in now.

  2. I agree!!!! Somehow we would just be a little under-cooked if we go into the season without another 20-per-season striker. AND also, get another CB.
    EXCITED EXCITED EXCITED!!!!

  3. ade…..smuddie!! if we dont get anybody else and just get RID of adebayor, I’ll be happy that we’ve done good business in this transfer window

  4. Best to get rid of Adebayor and Defoe and buy Leandro. The only reason this deal fell apart was because Spurs were not prepared to pay anywhere near the asking price. If this was to happen we would have two of the best strikers in the world. I watch plenty of Brazilian football…this lad is great.
